Romania's shame

After watching "Nightlines" coverage on the orphans in Romania I couldn't help crying in disbelief and disgust. Partly because this is my native country but also I'm ashamed of our society as a whole. I just cant understand how people have babies (carrying a child in your body) and then discard them as if they were a bad Birthday present. I'm aware that under Communism Romanians had very little choice and abortions were not an option. It's hard to see any kind of change taking place since corruption is the norm.
I had the opportunity to visit an orphanage in Remeti a few years ago while visiting my dad. He was a doctor in this town and treated the orphans. It was also my first visit since leaving this area as a child. At first I held my breath expecting to find horrific conditions but to my surprise and relief it was a good experience. The place was clean and in order. There was a play room and even a dance room with colorful lights. All the children were supervised and seemed to be enjoying themselves. I was told that a German organization donated the money for this particular orphanage. If only all the orphaned kids in Romania could have the same experience. Even better if there weren't any abandoned children at all.

This is the most heart-tearing blog item I have ever read. It makes me want to THINK globally, but ACT locally. Ultimately I was too lazy and I did nothing.

Why don't you post some items on apes? Everybody likes apes.

Did you ever notice that browser names also work as horror movie titles? Like so:

-Evil Explorer
-Satan's Safari
-Firefox From Hell
-Deadly Navigator
-Opera of Death
-Son of Mozilla

That kind of stuff keeps me awake at night. That, and the plight of Romania's orphans.

P.S. - You should sell picture T-shirts on yr. site.
P.P.S. - Maybe use pictures of apes!
P.P.P.S. - We'll always have Cannes.

Dave,
As always your comments leave a big frown on my face followed by a big smile or is it the other way around. Anyway, only YOU understand my daily plight. Keep writing, also where is my copy of your book?
